For the 2025–2026 autumn-winter period, Uzbekistan intends to produce 10 million tons of coal. Officials presented this plan to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 18 November, according to the press service of the presidential administration.
Authorities from relevant ministries and agencies noted that to achieve these goals, the material and technical base of enterprises under the joint-stock company Uzbekkomir (Uzbekcoal) is being strengthened, and favorable conditions are being created for additional producers in the sector.
In the 2024–2025 autumn-winter season, the country extracted and supplied almost 8.7 million tons of coal to thermal power plants, budgetary institutions, and the population.
Officials emphasized that alongside other energy sectors, new projects are being implemented in the coal industry, capacities are being increased, and production volumes are rising. These measures aim to ensure uninterrupted energy supply for citizens, social institutions, and economic sectors during the heating season.
President Mirziyoyev instructed that citizens be guaranteed coal supply throughout the season. He also stressed the importance of modernizing enterprises and commissioning new production capacities. The president called for reducing production costs through market mechanisms and competition.
“During the presentation, issues of accelerating new investment projects in the uranium sector, expanding geological exploration, and implementing modern technologies were also discussed,” the press service reported.
At the end of October, Uzbek Energy Minister Zhurabek Mirzamahmudov specified that during the current autumn-winter period, 10 million tons of domestic coal and 2 million tons of imported coal are planned for delivery to the population and enterprises. He added that stockpiles currently contain 724,000 tons of this fuel.
The minister also noted that the country’s energy system has already switched to the autumn-winter schedule, with round-the-clock duty operating in subordinate organizations. Dedicated call centers with short numbers have been set up for rapid citizen inquiries: 1154 for electricity and 1104 for gas supply.
