Citizens of Tajikistan will now be able to undergo the medical examination required for employment in Russia directly in Dushanbe. This measure is part of an agreement on medical screening for migrants from Tajikistan, signed on October 8 during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s state visit to the country, reports RIA Novosti.

The agreement was signed by Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko and Tajik Minister of Health and Social Protection Jamoliddin Abdullozoda.

The medical examination will be conducted according to Russian regulations at a designated facility within a medical institution in Dushanbe. Migrants who complete the procedure there will not need to undergo another examination upon arrival in Russia.

Speaking to the media after Russian–Tajik negotiations in Dushanbe, Vladimir Putin noted that more than one million Tajik labor migrants make a significant contribution to the Russian economy, working in sectors such as construction, housing and utilities, and transportation. He emphasized that remittances sent by Tajik citizens provide substantial support to their families and to Tajikistan’s economy. The president added that Russia seeks to ensure decent working conditions and social protection for Tajik citizens, and that relevant agencies of both countries maintain close cooperation on migration policy.

The results of the medical examination are among the required documents for obtaining a temporary residence permit (RVP), permanent residence permit (VNZh), work patent (for citizens of visa-free countries), work permit (for citizens of visa-required countries), refugee certificate, or temporary asylum status in Russia.
