Tajikistan has launched its first National Internet Exchange Point (IXP), named TJ-IX (Tajikistan Internet Exchange). The project was established by Tajiktelecom with the support of the Communications Service under the Government of the Republic, reports Asia-Plus.
The Communications Service emphasized that the launch of TJ-IX marks an important step in developing Tajikistan’s digital infrastructure and strengthening the country’s digital sovereignty. The exchange point enables direct traffic exchange between internet service providers and other organizations, which will help improve internet speed and quality, reduce latency, and lessen reliance on international routing.
The key objectives of TJ-IX include:
✅ reducing latency and improving internet access speeds;
✅ lowering costs associated with international traffic;
✅ enhancing cybersecurity and digital sovereignty;
✅ building a unified digital ecosystem and a collaborative platform for providers.
TJ-IX boasts a capacity of up to 500 Gbps and a guaranteed uptime of 99.99%. The network supports modern IPv4 and IPv6 protocols and is equipped with monitoring and security tools.
Internet service providers, government agencies, private companies, educational institutions, data centers, and content delivery networks (CDNs) are eligible to connect to TJ-IX. Future plans include expanding the project through the creation of regional access points across the country, integration with international digital platforms, and connecting university networks.
