Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has appointed Aziz Tashpulatov as the country’s new Minister of Internal Affairs, according to presidential press secretary Sherzod Asadov. Tashpulatov previously served as the head of the Tashkent City Police Department.
Asadov noted that lawmakers in the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis (Uzbekistan’s parliament) have approved Tashpulatov’s candidacy for the post.
Tashpulatov replaces Pulat Bobojonov, who had led the ministry since September 2017. No official reason has been given for Bobojonov’s dismissal.
🔹 Aziz Tashpulatov, born in 1978, has worked in the police departments of Namangan and Samarkand regions. From 2019 to 2020, he served as First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs before becoming the chief of the Tashkent police department in March 2020. He holds the rank of Major General.
🔹 Pulat Bobojonov, born in 1961, spent much of his career in the General Prosecutor’s Office, serving for five years as a deputy prosecutor general. In 2012, he was appointed governor of Khorezm region before becoming Minister of Internal Affairs in 2017. He holds the rank of Lieutenant General.
