A delegation from Uzbekistan’s Center for Islamic Civilization (CIC), led by its director, Firdavs Abdukhalikov, held a working meeting with executives from the BBC in London. The meeting, part of Cultural Heritage Week in London, was reported by the press service of the World Society for the Study, Preservation, and Popularization of Uzbekistan’s Cultural Heritage (WOSCU).
The discussions took place at the BBC headquarters and included Mehfuz Husain, executive editor of the BBC World Service, Fred Durman and Tamara Walsh from the Commercial Development Department, Khayrullo Faiz, head of the BBC Uzbek Service, and other officials.
During the meeting, Abdukhalikov presented the activities of the CIC and proposed a collaboration on creating short videos and films to promote the humanistic ideas of Islam and highlight the scientific and cultural legacies of prominent scholars connected to Uzbekistan.
«Cooperation with the BBC, one of the world’s leading information platforms with a vast global audience, holds significant importance. For example, the documentary 'The Kattalangar Quran: Mysteries and Facts,' produced several years ago in partnership with the BBC, drew wide attention both in Uzbekistan and internationally. Similarly, the documentary 'The Return of the Quran of Uthman,' created in collaboration with the Cinematography Agency, marked another milestone in this partnership,» Abdukhalikov remarked.
He expressed optimism that the CIC’s proposed new media project on ancient Quranic manuscripts associated with Uzbekistan would continue this fruitful collaboration with the BBC.
The parties also explored opportunities to produce content tailored to contemporary audiences and discussed efforts to protect youth from the influence of harmful ideologies. The delegation further familiarized themselves with the operations of the BBC Uzbek Service.
