Shavkat Abdurazakov, the hokim (head of administration) of Namangan region, announced that in 2025, plans are in place to employ about 100,000 migrants who have returned home from abroad within Uzbekistan. The official voiced these plans at a meeting on the economic development of the region, which was chaired by the republic's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as reported by his press service.
The head of the Namangan region also noted that by the end of this year, the poverty level in the region will decrease by 8%, and next year by another 5.3%. This will lift 78,000 people out of poverty.
The hokim presented plans for implementing economically important projects. According to him, in 2025, the regional authorities intend to attract $4.2 billion in investments, create 34,000 jobs, and ensure exports worth $1 billion.
Speaking specifically, officials have identified opportunities in the region for implementing 182 projects worth $527 million. For instance, with the expansion of the small industrial zone in the «Barkamol avlod» mahalla (community) of Namangan city, a leather and footwear enterprise worth $60 million will be located here. And the creation of a similar zone in Mingbulak will ensure the placement of several industrial projects worth $25 million.
It was noted that an entrepreneur from the Pap district, together with American partners, intends to invest $80 million in a plant that will be able to process up to 1.8 million tons of fluorite stone per year. The enterprise will provide jobs for 200 people. At the same time, it is planned to supply products worth $70 million abroad annually.
Another businessman proposed investing $40 million in projects across several areas, particularly growing medicinal plants, producing confectionery, and organizing tourist services.
It was also discussed that on lands with access to groundwater, it makes sense to grow rice, cereals, and fodder crops, and to breed fish around reclamation wells in the Naryn district. In several other districts of the Namangan region, it was decided to develop animal husbandry.
Summing up, local authorities reported that over the ten months of this year, 681 projects have been implemented in the region, creating 21,000 jobs. Enterprises produced goods worth more than 21 trillion soums ($1.6 billion), with exports reaching $702 million. By the end of the year, the region's economy is projected to grow by 8%.
