The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan and Masdar company from the United Arab Emirates have signed a contract to implement a project for the construction of a 1000 MW wind power plant (WPP) in the Uchkuduk district of Navoi region. The document signing ceremony took place in Baku as part of the UN Climate Change Conference COP29, reports the press service of the Uzbek ministry.

According to the Ministry of Energy, up to 800 jobs will be created during the construction of the facility. After the project implementation, the wind farm will generate 3.5 billion kWh of electricity annually.

This will save approximately 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas.

The construction of the wind power plant is also important for environmental protection. Thanks to the operation of the facility, harmful emissions into the atmosphere will be reduced by 1.4 million tons per year.

Uzbek officials note that this project is another stage of partnership with Masdar company, aimed at improving energy security, creating jobs, and growing the economy of the Central Asian republic.

«In accordance with the UAE initiative 'Triple increase in renewable energy capacities', we are joining global efforts to combat climate change, as well as supporting the goals of the Paris Agreement to expand global cooperation in renewable energy and reduce emissions,» the Ministry of Energy's statement says.

Masdar has already implemented a number of projects in Uzbekistan with a total capacity of about 1500 MW. In particular, these include a 500 MW wind farm in Zarafshan, as well as solar photovoltaic power plants in Karman (100 MW), Gallaaral (220 MW), Kattakurgan (220 MW), and Sherabad (457 MW).

Currently, investors from the UAE are participating in the construction of photovoltaic stations in the Alat district of Bukhara region (250 MW) and the Guzar district of Kashkadarya region (300 MW).
