Shavkat Mirziyoyev offered to provide war-affected Palestinian children and women with free treatment in Uzbekistan's clinics. The president of Uzbekistan announced this on November 11, speaking at the extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
«It is impossible to watch calmly, without pain how social infrastructure objects, schools, hospitals, mosques, entire cities are being destroyed, millions of civilians are left homeless, forced to suffer from hunger and diseases. Worst of all, and we are witnesses to this, double standards are being used regarding this tragedy in the international arena. This sharply increases the likelihood of escalation, poses a serious threat to international security,» noted the President of Uzbekistan.
Mirziyoyev stated the necessity to:
👉 radically enhance the role and influence of the UN and Security Council in resolving the long-standing Arab-Israeli conflict, issues of immediate cessation of military actions, ensuring safe humanitarian corridors and starting peace negotiations should be at the center of constant attention of this universal international structure;
👉 expand the scale of assistance from states and leading international organizations to Palestine and Lebanon to «prevent a catastrophic humanitarian crisis»;
👉 discuss issues of providing practical assistance to the people of Palestine at the «Gulf Arab States — Central Asia» summit next year in Samarkand.
👉 ensure the inviolability of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and other unique historical and cultural monuments of Jerusalem.
ℹ️ The summit on resolving the Palestinian issue and stabilizing the situation in Lebanon gathered members of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). It was attended by heads of over 50 states and governments from the Middle East, Africa, Central and South Asia. Besides Mirziyoyev, Central Asia was represented by the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu.
Following the summit, a statement was signed, which, as reported by Alarabiya.news, contains:
▶️ a demand for Israel to «withdraw from all occupied Palestinian territories,» which will be a prerequisite for peace in the region;
▶️ a call for a return to the borders that existed before 1967, referring to UN resolutions and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative, which offered Israel normalization of relations in exchange for a two-state solution;
▶️ a call for the creation of a Palestinian State with its capital in East Jerusalem and for the development of an internationally sponsored plan with specific steps and timelines to achieve this goal.
